Where do they get it from?

First thing in the morning my female boxer will go and have a big long pee in the gravelled part of my back garden while I prepare her breakfast. Then out on a walk, at several spots where she has had a good sniff, she'll summon up more pee to have a bit of a territorial spray. Do they always keep some back, or do they create this on demand?

It's different glands (well it is with cats) - however much you've wee'd, you can still summon up a good spray to cover up another cat's smell.

My GSD used to top up before he went for a walk, He emptied his water bowl was almost every time.

My mum 'baby-sat' my pal's dog one day. Sandy had never been de-balled and was very much a fighter (never won any fights though) and a 'bloke'.

He spent the whole day wandering around my mum's garden cocking his leg against every plant going. Mum was astonished - but her giving him drinks on demand wouldn't have helped.

I miss Sandy - he was a lovely dog, apart from him trying to kill other male dogs ...........

My female Lab sometimes cocks her leg or raises her bottom to pee against a wall when we're out. Is this normal or does she have some 'gender issues'?

The Doberman peed down my leg once and just walked on with a doggy smirk.
