Cats are evil little b*stard* and could inflict a nasty injury. If the postie hadn't reported it the cat would have continued and started a routine of waiting to attack the postie. They are not innocent little animals :-)

A few years ago I used to have a long haired white persian. He would stalk along the end of the garden , Luckily I am in a cul de sac .When he saw the postman he would start his stalking walk. The postman had to do a Mrs Bucket in Keeping up Appearances from next doors garden as it is all open plan. He used to do the same to other cats and it took the cats a good view months to realise he wasn't there anymore.
I'm a courier and be it cat or dog its really annoying. i was bitten before xmas and was gutted to be told cause i was on the guys property it is civil not criminal so unless we pay out our own pockets to take the person to court and claim off the house insurance thats it tough you got bit. now i hate to think that some of thearea i cover is well slightly rough i doubt they even have insurance in the first place.
I do sympathise with the postman - I'm not saying I don't! - but some letterboxes are dreadful (with or without guard cat on the back). I had to deliver something myself before Christmas to a flap and bristley thing that nearly took my hand off.
These days there is no excuse for weeny letterboxes or low-down ones - but the only thing with baskets is that long letters don't always fit.
Cats being creatures of habit, they'll be damned annoyed if their fun is challenged!
