Central London

I need to stay in central London for a couple of nights in February. I prefer not to go as far as Bloomsbury so usually pop into the Travelodge at Covent Garden or Premier Inn at County Hall.

But does anyone know of anywhere else that's reasonably priced for a change?

Eh? The British Museum (which is probably the most well known landmark in Bloomsbury) is only 2 stops (4 minutes, at most) away from Covent Garden, using Russell Square station. Just how more central can you get?

The Strand Palace Hotel (which, unsurprisingly, is on The Strand) has frequently been mentioned on AB as providing accommodation at a reasonable price:

I'm staying on my own Chris and going to a late evening function near Piccadilly. Next day I need to be in Green Park area. I just prefer not to go over to Bloomsbury and wondered whether anyone knows of any secret gems anywhere other than there.

Oh oh, I stayed in the Strand Palace Hotel years ago and it was FABULOUS! They were renovating mind you so it was very cheap. :)
Also stayed at one, I think it was in St Martin's Lane, as part of a train and hotel package. Don't know if thet still do that stuff but it was fab.
My sister stays down there now so I don't have that problem.
I'll go now cos I'm rambling.

Given your specified locations, I've just tried a map-based search on TripAdvisor, centred on Buckingham Palace. Unsurprisingly, most of the nearby hotels are mega-expensive (e.g. the Lanesborough, at £472 to £792 per night!).

The only reasonably-priced hotel was this one:

Have you ever used www.lastminute.com? You can get some really good deals on secret hotels on there. My hubby and I went last March and stayed at the Mayfair Hotel for £79! If you wait until a couple of days before you go you should get a really good deal :)

I've looked at the secret hotels may, but am not sure how late I can leave it before I panic! At the moment the secret horels are reasonable but not brilliantly cheap. But to stay in the Myfair for £79 would be a dream come true!

What I could do May, is to wait until February which isn't to long now, and then try. Might have some bargains once the month changes. But I still have time to get in somewhere if I can't get anything.

As strange (and scary) as it may sound--every time I go to London, I book only my first night & then I shop around the area I stay in for a cheaper hotel.
I have ALWAYS ended up finding less expensive rooms this way.
I normally stay just a tad east of Kensington, close to the tube, and then get around from there, but I don't know if that's central enough for you.

There are tons of walk ups/3-4 story homes that have converted to hotels and I've found them to be a.) reasonably priced, b.) excellent locations in relationship to tube, market & sites, c.) nice accommodations, but not as large as the hotel rooms would be in a hotel chain.

** Right now, the room is 100, but when I went to look up the place for you, i saw that they were doing a feb/march special where, if you book online, they take 20 off of each night's rate.
If you don't like this one (or the area), you can do a google search and hundreds of the little hotels should pop up!
