What is 40 + 40 x 0 + 1

I thought it was 1, but due to pedmas (sp?) it's supposed to be 41???

It depends where you put the parentheses, surely.

Alternatively, if you type that directly into a calculator with no parentheses, the answer will be 1.

Definitely 41 if you follow the usual order of calculation as set by the acronym BODMAS. Unfortunately if you try it on a basic calculator it will give an answer of 1 as it works in the sequence that you input the figures and symbols.

40+(40*0)+1=41
40+40*(0+1)=80
Always try to use brackets otherwise BODMAS rules!
