The answer is the TRIO advert, from 1986, in the middle a guy says 'a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do'.

No it was Texan Bars.

The advert had a cowboy, on a horse, looking mean and moody. He takes a bite, pulls it away from his mouth and you can see strands of toffee.

Toffo by the way are still made, but they're rubbish and not nearley as nice as highland toffee.
