Housing Benefit form Query!

Why do they put on the Housing Benefit form the question, Do you own a property? I thought the benefit was for people who didn't own a property.

They mean any other property you may own, perhaps a rental or holiday home.

yes, you cannot claim if you own another property, even if it is miles away of uninhabitable!!

We had to fill in one of these forms earlier in the week and were amazed by some of the questions it asked. Then even more amazed at the mountain of ID and other documents they wanted to see. It makes you wonder how anyone can fraudulently claim this benefit, where would they get all these fake documents from?

Its to be clear to people that if they lie and own a property thats fraud. If the question wasn't there fraud esters would declare indignantly that they didn't know they couldn't own a property and get the benefit.

Does holiday property count, eg timeshares?

unlikely, because that is a temp home, as is a caravan x

Actually, you can claim LHA (it hasn't been called HB for a couple of years) even if you do own a home
