I buy EVOO from Aldi which has 'Which recommended Best Buy' on the label. Plain OO is dearer.

No, I don't know what nutrients are lost but suspect the bog standard olive oil would lose the same ones.

If sure of the quality then go for the cheapest for cooking.

That is exactly what I think - I buy EVGG and use it for everything. If I lose a few nutrients alonf the way..........so be it. When I was a kid, olive oil was for earache.

olive oil is mixed and diluted with other oils, extra virgin olive oil is pure.

I believe the Aldi oil that smart is referring to is 750 ml...and less than £3.
It's as good as any other EVOO I've used.

annadomino, Palm oil is very diffrent from olive oil , palm oil has recently been banned from some types of food , look at this

smart1 you need to tell us the size and brand of the bottles of olive oil , possibly the Extra virgin is on special offer at the moment. Extra virgin oil costs a lot more to produce so it is normally more expensive, I have NEVER seen it cheaper than standard oil , usually extra virgin is around twice the price.

I only ever buy extra virgin. I can't see the point in buying plain OO - it hasn't got the taste or nutrients of extra virgin, so you'd be better off buying sesame or something else if you don't want extra virgin.

If you're saying the plain oil is dearer you must be buying it from Waitrose and your EV from Lidl.

Just as a "point to remember"... (i went on a tour guide of Corfu into an Olive Oil making monastary.. blah blah blah.

Olives are apparently put in hessian sacks and then steeped in boiling water.
when they have been there for as long as they need to be, they are pressed while they remain in the sack..
the first pressing is the clearest and finest "virgin" olive oil.
additional pressings from the same sack are used in soaps and lubricants.

Annadomino , Yes Palm oil was used in some very well known brands of Chocolate ( Mars bars were one ) but it is now banned .
