engine revs to 3,000 rpm then cuts out
been having a problem with my Clio 1.2 8v mk2 (1998).
this can happen at any point of the journey, sometimes wont do it for a couple of days. Whilst driving it will start missing and hunting so you dip the clutch and the engine revs increase on there own to about £3,000 rpm, sometimes it will cut out and other times it will drive through it. I have replaced the throttle body and also replaced the MAP sensor which sits on top of the air box. I have had the diagnostic comp on it and it has only come up with stored fault codes of the things I have disconnected to test. any help would be much appreciated

Ihad a very similar problem on an old Lancia .It would rev up to about 4000 when stationary then conk out on pulling off.Even the computer wouldn't pick it up.Then one fateful day 2 years on ,it refused to start.it turned out to be a heat sensor in the water jacket.the part was not expensive but the towing in cost me £120
