My thoughts exactly. If you ask something specific and several people answer in a short space of time how can you pick one as best. If the answers required are not all the the same, like best way to poach an egg, then you might mark one as best answer. What happens when someone else comes along with an absolutely brilliant answer? I preferred stars. It showed the setter had seen your questions and they could allocate none, one, two or three stars. Miss that system and dont like new one.

Technically, it was broken. You previously could press the "mark as best answer" button without seeing any results. We've fixed something which was broken :)

You might decide that the answer which gave the working out was the best, or the answer which came first. In reality it's entirely subjective and all you're saying is that "this answer is the best in the mind of the original questioner"

AB Editor, you havent commented on my observation, what if you have given out a best answer, and get something MUCH better later on. It gives one person the best and everyone else nothing at all. Sometimes one thread has hundreds of responses - is only one "best answer" really appropriate?

Hi Grasscarp, I didn't answer directly because I thought it would have been covered in the previous response. However:

A original questioner can choose a different best answer if they wish. The Best Answer pod swaps to the latest chosen in that question.

This is sort of the definition of "best"?

As I said previously, we have to accept that like most things in life, this is going to be a fairly subjective choice.

Yes, it is on these threads which the best answer is most appropriate, a new poster visiting will be able to jump to the piece of information deemed most useful by the questioner.
