Hello,
today I received my first payslip (last month I didn't get one) and suddenly I had £196,60 PAYE Tax deducted. I was wondering why is that, since my employer knows that I was going to work for him until the 31st of January (and I started only on the 28th of November). I may have to mention also that I didn't have a NI Number, nor a bank account (I intended to stay in the UK only for 2 and a half months). Furthermore I was wondering how did I get a National Insurance Number without applying for it and can I somehow claim a tax refund considering these circumstances?
Thank you in advance

0T tax codes are for people who haven't provided their employer with a P45 or completed a P46
You will be able to claim a tax refund, yes - but possibly not until you have stopped work

Nothing to do with what your employer 'knows' - he has to operate the system.

@ubasses, but my employer said nothing about providing such a form.. :/
When you start a new job you have to provide your employer with a P45 from your previous employer. If you do not have one a P46 has to be filled in. You need to speak to your employer to sort this out. You will be able to get a tax rebate
As far as I know, the 0TM1 (that's zeroTM1) is an emergency tax code where you are taxed on all of your earnings at 20% without your allowances. It should be sorted out when your employer gets your true tax code and applies the personal allowance.
how did you get a job without an NI number?
Payroll systems create a temp one.
The employer has to take tax on all of your earnings unless you can supply a tax code which prevents it.

You can claim a tax refund from the tax office when you go there to sort yourself out with a tax code. But until then the employer will have to continue to deduct full tax.
