Hi, just got back from the doctors and since being diagnosed with cancer I have lost a stone and a half! Nothing sinister going on [well didn't eat for a week after being told] just good old healthy eating.
I can't even exercise too much as I have arthritis in my ankles but I do walk the dogs every day....
Oh and my smoking cessation appointment is booked too!
Great to hear you so positive - losing weight with healthy eating, walking the dogs and stopping smoking can only help your general health. Bet your doc was really pleased with you. Go girl, keep the positive vibes buzzing.
He's was pretty shocked to be honest....he usually has to sedate me to get me on the scales!
The smoking thing is going to be hard, I keep using it as a crutch for my anxiety! So bluddy stupid!
Not stupid at all Lisa, we all need something to hang on to and losing weight and stopping smoking at the same time is a real biggie. I stopped smoking 5 years ago and believe me it was hard going for the first few months, but it does get better. Just need to shift the pounds now lol. You're very positive at the moment so maybe this is the time, but if it's not, don't beat yourself up about it. Plenty of support on here too so you don't have to go it alone. Good luck.
When I stopped smoking I would set small targets i.e. get to three days, then 5, aim for 7,(tell yourself that's a whole week without smoking) next step is 10 and so on. Allow yourself a small treat as you hit each target (the odd cream cake won't harm!).
Also, make sure you get rid of all smoking paraphernalia (ashtrays, lighters etc) and get used to saying 'No thanks, I don't smoke'.
Divegirl, well done with the wight loss, as to the ciggies, I've neve smoked so don't know how hard it will be, but think of all the extra Bahts you can buy for Thailand! Good luck x
Hi Divegirl, I guess the ABers will be with you all the way.
I stopped smoking 50 years ago after losing a bit of weight rapidly.
Stopping in one go is very hard to do and to maintain so the first day, I stopped for about one hour, had one puff on a cigarette but then PUT IT OUT.
It's only the first puff which satisfies the desire to smoke, the rest of the cigarette just puts more nicotine in your body which you certainly don't need.
Wait a further hour and repeat the above, one puff and PUT IT OUT.
Repeat this for a couple of days and you may then be able to go 90 mins or two hours between puffs but never reduce the waiting time. Later, when you feel it is possible increase the waiting time again to maybe 3 or 4 hours.
It took me about 10 days to be able to go the full day without a smoke but I have never had another since that day and it was much easier than doing the complete stop in one go.
Extra strong mints are also a great help to pass the waiting time.
I wish you well in all you do and hope that the above is of some help to you.
I think for me I need to focus on the financial benefits of giving up...it's not that I can't afford it but I do love to see money building up in the old bank account!
I also like the one puff idea....I'm a great believer in the fact that once you deny yourself something it becomes the forbidden fruit!
Its been a really weird day though... I put on Facebook that I have cancer [though I had mentioned it in passing] and have had a few distraught mates on the phone. Note to self....putting a status of cancer is great for weight loss is not to everyones sense of humour.....opps! ;0)
