Hi, we are thinking of buying a wireless router to connect 2 pcs to the internet. Im a bit of a dumbo where pc's are concerned so this may sound daft. The router has a built in modem and also a built in firewall. We already have a firewall on our pc, so should we uninstall it? Also if we do have to uninstall it should we do it before or after installing the router. thanks :)

oh also, the router comes with something called a microfilter, there is only one in the pack, do we need one of these for each pc or is it nothing to do with that? (We have 3 asdl filters, one in the socket we use for internet, one in the phone socket, and one in the socket we use for sky)

The firewall built into the router (a hardware firewall) is different from a firewall on your PC (software firewall).

It is fine to have both and you do not need to uninstall the one from your PC.

hi vehelpfulguy, thank you. I wasnt sure if they would conflict or not. :)
You need a microfilter for each telephone point in the house. These split the ADSL signal from the normal voice signal so stops them interfering with each other.

Hi OBonio, thanks. I imagined that would be the case, so do we use these instead of the asdl filters or as well as? Sorry to be a pain, I am a real novice when it comes to pc's
The ones you use currently will be fine.
