What would be a suitable punishment for their perverting the course of justice, if found guilty. I would revoke their driving licences for life. If they went to prison that would cost the taxpayer money

He must be looking at 6 months, possibly more after fighting the case, on conviction because he has stubbornly refused to admit guilt and is a public figure who is supposed to make laws, not break laws . Perverting the course of public justice is a serious offence, so immediate custody is all but inevitable. She might be well get only a suspended sentence though, on a plea of guilty, just for grassing him up (or "because she was led into it by him, under his influence , saw the light" etc etc.)
