Tattoos...

My friend just showed me a picture of the tattoo she is going to get. It's a little tribal flower design she found on google images and it's actually quite dire. I didn't want to say because she liked it that much but I just couldn't believe she is going to have something permanently inked on her that she found on google!

I think tattoos should be personal and have a meaning behind them. Even if they don't have a specific meaning I think they should at least be unique.

That's just how I feel and I was just wondering what other people think?

I agree daisyia, my comments were aimed not at the like or dislike of tattoos but judging the people who have them or for the reasons they have them.

I love my tattoo, and had it done just for me. It's on the top of my arm/shoulder so is not often on display.

It is 'my' art if I have the design in mind and know exactly what I want, just not a good drawer myself. The tattooist just interprets what I describe and puts ink to skin. So if I was an author but couldn't spell or write, instead dictated to a someone who put the pen to paper for me, are you saying I didn't write the book just because I didn't print it myself ???

People have tattoos and body piercings done to (in their own minds) make themselves more attractive/interesting to the opposite sex (or same sex if that's your bag)

Whereas some of us don't need gimmicks like that

Joeluke, so what about people that have piercings and tattoos that no one else can see!! This subject really does bring the narrow minded people to the fore!! Sad really!

We don't all do things for the benefit or admiration by other people.
