I think it's about a week or so before, and all the time you're there, and maybe for a short time when you are back.........can't really remember, but do take them!......you really need to, malaria is a horrid thing!....
as seasoned africa/middle and far east travellers, (int'l travel >125 nights a year), we used to take five the day before leaving, one a day and then five the day arriving back (on French soil).
information, presumably you've already been to see your GP to get your travel medicines sorted out? - if so, you'll get a prescription for your tablets and they tell you when to start and when to finish your malaria tablets - you have to keep taking them for several days after you get home.
Jonnyboy I think that should be a full stop after your "No" and a capital Y on your "you" (since you are the spelling/grammar police).
Regarding the malaria tabs - I haven`t taken one for 30 years. My belief is that a good deet spray and a mosquito net is as good as anything. If you do have them (and I didn`t bother in Sri Lanka) make sure you get the right tablets for the area you are going to. So many mosquitos are immune to drugs these days.
