Just watching The Politics Show ' and didn't realise that over the lasr 3yrs we (Britain) have printrd 3bn - yes 3bn in exrara money, supposedly to get us out of recession, apparently all sanctioned by the chancellor. Am I just slow, or have most people been aware of this?
Yes - it is called 'quantitive easing'. My point is that I like to consider myself fairly 'au fait' with what's going on. I remember hearing about this a few years ago, but nothing since. As a voter (not for the current government) should I have to dig for this knowledge, given that it den't appear to be 'common knowledge'?.
you listen to the wrong radio stations and watch the wrong tv programmes then if you think this info is hidden. I would hazzara guess that most people don't actually care or would even understand
The paper reports another 50bn being added today to prevent a double dip recession.
The largest effect seems to be on older people who have pensions and will be permanently poorer.
Surely the simple answer to Quantitive Easing is to not give the cash to the banks. I'm no economist but it seems to me if the money to be printed was sent out in the form of a cheque for say £ 25,000 to everyone who pays income tax and let them use it? Some will spend wisely, some will ease mortgage and other debt problems, some will put it into a bank account and some may even waste it on those hallowed words 'Wine, Women and Song!! B.
