Today I purchased a 2 metre VGA cable that connects my laptop to my tv. I can see the picture on the tv ok but the sound is coming out of the laptop. Is there any way that I can get the sound to come through the tv?

VGA is video only not sound.

A HDMI cable can do video and sound, but your laptop and TV both need a HDMI socket.

Search google for "laptop to TV" for loads of sites that give advice.

I had the same problem. the sound comes from the laptop, not the tv, so i had to connect the headphone outlet on the lap top to my surround sound system, a bit of a nuisance, or you can connect speakers to your laptop, or turn the volume up on the laptop, but thats not very loud.
both of the other answer will work but it may be just as easy to get a 3.5mm pin cable for the headphone socket at one end and a two pin (white and red) for your tv at the other , you can get one online or somewhere like
maplins
As above....

But check the back of the TV or the manual first, some TVs have 2 X phonos plugs for the PC audio input, some have 1 x 3.5mm headphone style socket for the PC audio input.
