Eden project

Has anyone been to the Eden Project? Is it worth the entry fee (it will cost us around £75 - thing 1 & thing 2 are free). Thanks.

accessories (gifts/snacks etc etc) are not cheap......

other things inc the Healey Cider Centre (not sure if open but a phone call....) and nearby (< 1/2 mile down the hill is the Callestick Ice Cream Farm....(2 miles off the A30). I live close by - good pub in Zelah and family oriented as they have two young boys, the Hawkins.....

I've been but it was in the early days. there was nothing but plants (!). £75 is a lot for that, it didn't have any attractions for children then but it may have developed considerably.

If you have Tesco Vouchers you can buy an adult ticket for £7.50 and a child ticket for £3.50 in vouchers.

£75 for 5....hmmm, probably, if they're interested in stuff like that.

Everyone I've met who has been there has enjoyed it but (since they're all middle-aged or 'senior citizens') that might not be a good enough reason for visiting with young children.

I've been and its well worth the money in June when everything is in full bloom - Beautiful. (Don't know about this time of year)

I know that you've got young grandchildren, so could I ask you to expand upon your answer in order to provide more information to Sherrardk (who has 5 children aged 3 to 11)?

i.e. it's clear that you enjoyed the Eden Project but do you think that your grandchildren would have also enjoyed it, or would they have just been bored?

Not been myself but have heard nothing but good reviews about it. Feb half-term they have a chocolate festival which may be good! The Big Sheep in Bideford also gets praise from families so that may be worth a look (cheaper than the Eden Project too and about the same distance from where you will be staying (assuming that you are still thinking about next week from your other thread!)

Thanks all - especially Bunechico for such detail. Think we will go as I don't know when we will be in Cornwall again (going Monday - was informed at lunchtime!), can't be as bad as bloody Wookey Hole, and as DT has said, there is an ice cream arm down the road - win win situation.

Just remember the Eden Project was built on a disused 160 year old clay quarry.

And I know they had to raise millions of pounds to develop the site and pay for, a build, the huge biodomes.

The biodomes are huge, as it says on the Eden Project web site "You could fit the Tower of London in the Rainforest Biome. The Guinness Book of Records heralds the Biomes as the biggest conservatories in the world"

Hats off to Tim Smit, the person who kicked the whole project off and worked hard to raise the money and develop the site.

I've been and to me it's a horticultural zoo. Very unreal and touristy with all that that entails e.g. overpriced food and crowds. Heligan is sooooo much better if you're in that part of the world.
