I would like to learn Conversational French. I cannot go anywhere to learn it but looking for something I can do at home. Can anyone tell me how to go about it and how to make it as easy as possible. Don't want anything too complicated. Looked at Rosetta Stone and blanched. I learned it at school about a hundred years ago but can only remember bits.
Hi, I find the Michel Thomas Spanish course quite good and he also does a French one. He is very good at teaching and within a few hours you should have a grasp on the language. I got my course off the net for a couple of quid so it doesn't need to be expensive. I also look at the one on the BBC website. In the early hours of the 22nd and 23rd February there is a French learning program on BBC2 maybe worth a look.
It’s a shame you can’t go to your local college for a couple of hours each week. Most offer very good part time courses ranging from beginners to advanced.
One thing I would say about learning any language is never go for the sort of stuff that teaches phrases because you’ll end up being able to ask a question, but you’ll never understand the answer.
Have I got this right DT - to the brave heart nothing is impossible? - Let me know if this is right because I didn't look it up anywhere so I am thinking some of the French I learned in school must have stuck somewhere.
Thanks to everyone who has posted - you are all so kind and supportive.
