Internal hard drive replacement-

I've just replaced my internal drive and now am really struggling to tranfer all of my 'stuff' off my external drive! I used Macrium to make a backup of my C: drive ( I made 3 copies at different times,just in case) onto my J:drive(external) and now I can't seem to get everything onto my new drive.
Could I take out the 'new' drive and re-install my old drive(I didn't wipe it) and would everything still be as it was and then I could get someone to do the job properly?
Any advice or suggestions please

The O/S is the one I had used to upgrade my original system. I shall try and explain better... When I bought this computer a Dell Dimension 5150 it had Windows XP and I've been adding things to it- an extra 2Mb of memory,a better cd/dvd and then I bought Windows 7 Ultimate and installed that. Then I started having trouble with my internal drive,firstly it was getting to be too small (150Gb.)and then it started 'ticking'!! and getting very hot and noisy,so I bought a new internal hard drive and after several backups? (to my external J: drive) I removed the 'old original drive' and installed the 'new' hard drive. I only have 1 master disc containing Windows 7; so that is the same disc used to upgrade from XP originally. I then used that disc to install Windows7.
Don't know if that makes sense to you-which is probably why I'm writing this!!

If you haven't wiped the original C:\ drive then you should be able to put it back and be workable providing it is still set as MASTER.
Some Backup programs just copy the C;\ drive (or whatever you dictate) but to completely replace the old drive, it should CLONE everything including the Registry so that the new drive is a complete replica of the original drive.
If you did actually CLONE the original drive onto the new one, then the new drive should be OK providing it is set to MASTER also.
