Hi horseshoes, I used to be a regular visitor staying with friends at Whitby, but not in the 60's. Without seeing the photo it will be difficult to know which street it could be. Skinner Street has shops which runs across to Flowergate which is a long downhill street with shops (fruit shop and also dress shops) going towards the esplanade. Baxtergate runs parallel to the railway and the quay. You may be able to match up these streets on Google earth. Long shot until Mrs O turns up. Hope it helps
