I need to post some important documents and make sure that they arrive safely but should I use registered post or recorded delivery? and what is the difference between the two, I should point out the item to be posted has no monetary value.

If you want to track it right the way through its journey then I'd choose Special Delivery. Bit pricey but at least you know you can track it.
Registered post, the receiver has to sign for it.
Does 'registered post' still exist ? I think it is either 'special delivery' or 'recorded' these days. The latter is merely to do with getting a signature from the receiver, the former is tracked, I think.
You can also track recorded delivery, special post just guarantees it will be there before twelve the next working day.
Also, there is no guarantee as to when recorded delivery will arrive or even if it will.
Recorded is tracked as well but only when it reaches its destination and a signature is required.
Special Delivery for trackable items of a higher value. Recorded Delivery for trackable items of a lower value. Both need signing for.

Thanks to everyone for the answers, as I said the item has no value I just need to know that it arrived safely so look like recorded delivery is what I need.
