Cold calling
17 Answers
Had a phone call today from my Broadband and telephone supplier trying to flog me something for my mobile.
How annoying is it when they say 'Hi, and how are you today?'
I swear one of these days I might just say 'Well actually..........' and have a really good moan about growing old and illness's etc.
They just won't take no for an answer and so I was thinking that next time it happens I might pretend to be really drunk and drugged up.
Surely they wouldn't expect me to accept their package if I was 'out of it?'
What excuses do you use to get rid of them?

Had a call from them offering me 3 months at half price if I would sign up with them again. Said I wanted to price around as I might be able to get a better deal. Suddenly were able to give me 6 months at half price and a 1 year contract. Do they think I came up the Tay in a spam can. Will probably take their offer but making them wait for my decision for another 2 weeks.
Why is it that most people can't just say "I'm not interested", and put the phone down?
I'm no better. I tell the Asian guy (who is trying to convince me that my computer has a security problem) that I'm a Microsoft-certified technician. I tell the utility companies that I work for a price comparison website. I tell the 'market research' people that I've got to dash to catch a train, and so on.
Perhaps we're all a bit too polite at times?

I don't know where all these people who "won't take no for an answer" are - I don't get them. I always talk politely, listen to what they're saying (in case I actually do want something, though it's rare), tell them I don't want whatever it is they're selling, and say "thanks for calling". I never just hang up on anyone. Same for callers at the door. I've always found ordinary politeness does the trick. Perhaps I'm just lucky.
One time I answered the phone just before nine pm and it was somebody trying to sell something, they asked how I was and I pretended I had five children that I'd just got to bed after working a twelve hour shift at the hospital, so glad had someone to talk to because husband had left, had the on the phone for forty five mins listening to 'my woes', never heard from them again.
I think my irritation is more the effort of getting up from the settee (with my bad knees its such a struggle) or having to wipe your hands clean to pick up the phone if baking or gardening, it really winds me up - then for them to ask to speak to my husband or "the bill-payer" in the house makes me see red, I say through gritted teeth "we are both EQUAL in this house" or "I'm his wife, you can speak with ME!" For some unknown reason ;) they suddenly get that I'm a tad annoyed ha ha and quickly ring off!
Broadband provider back on today with yet another "great deal". I apparently can phone my landline from my mobile for free if I sign up for their mobile deals.
1.Considering I live alone, why would I be phoning home?
2.Already have 500 free minutes from my existing provider.
Young guy was nothing if not persistent.
