I agree about the old dresses. Today they'd be considered too demure and frumpy but the zillions of strapless corseted back gowns the brides wear now are never really beautiful, seems more important to look sexy and a bit risque now.

I remember after my mother died.We were clearing her house and heard some laughing from the other room. going to see what was the cause I went into the other room and three of my nieces were going through their mothers wedding album which my mum had saved, the comments went from "I can't believe mum was ever that slim" to "look at Uncle Paddy he's still got hair" the thing that they were really fascinated by were photos of their dad who was clean shaven, as when the eldest was about three he was in a very serious car smash after which he grew a beard to cover the facial scars and they'd never seen him without a beard.
Same here tink, one of my favourite family photos is one of my Grandad and Granny. It must have been taken in the 1920's as he was killed in a pit accident in 1936. It's a very formal photo typical of the period both dressed in their best, Grandad with his mustache and brylcreamed hair and Granny very carefully groomed holding one of my baby uncles or aunts, were not sure which one as they had four daughters and five sons and sadly by the time we found the photo they had all passed on or were incapable of remembering. Ive had it blown up and framed and it has pride of place in the family photos
Not wedding related, but Paddy - my dad grew a beard before I was born and he shaved it off briefly when I was about 5 and I burst into tears so he grew it back. He shaved it off again a couple of years ago and I could feel my bottom lip go when I saw him. There was something really disturbing about this stranger talking with my dad's voice. I think he's just going to keep it now :)
