Daughter gave me her slow cooker yesterday. I know there are lots of recipes I can find on the net but can anyone give me a tried and tested recipe for chicken breasts, please? I have several packets in my freezer and would welcome different ways to cook them. Usually I'm lazy and just do them in a cook-in sauce!I once bought a cook-book called The Reluctant Cook-that's me to a T.Thank you.

If you're a reluctant cook Q, your daughter has just done you a huge favour, you'll be amazed at what you can do with naff all effort.

Put a layer of casserole veg of your choice - cut a bit smaller than you normally would and no bigger than half walnut size if root veg -in the pot bottom. Or a bag of the prepped casserole mix veg from the supermarket is fine. Add a couple of bay leaves, season with salt, pepper and some oregano. Add enough cooking liquid to completely cover the vegetables and lay the chicken on top. Put it on low for about three and a half hours and leave it alone.

For the cooking liquid, use any mixture of veg/ chicken stock, packet (not jars) cooking sauce, tinned soup or tinned chopped toms. Cream of mushroom soup and stock, for instance, gives you a kind of chasseur. Or fry some bacon or chorizo, mix with the veg (add red peppers), season well with paprika and use tinned toms and stock for something completely different.

This all works well with pork too.
