ford fiesta '94

now then, i've just bought a fiesta '94, which drives like a dream and is only unfortunate in the sense that (a) it's white and (b) previous robbers have left the areas around the keyholes a little rough. (it's a 3door)

I like the car v much otherwise and am willing to spend time on it in order to make it more acceptable. However, I am not very knowledgeable. To what extent can I expect to improve this car without much outlay?

in what way would you want to improve it? if you want to go down the route of improving the outside appearence, a set of alloy wheels and maybe a spoiler would smarten it up a bit, and for not a lot of money. for inspiration take a look at an xr2/xr2i fiesta. the wonderful thing about fords is that they can be dressed up to look like something they aint. if this is what you want the wheels etc can probably be bought reasonably cheaply because the true boy racers want something a lot more bling...

Be careful not to 'barry' it (from the website barryboys), turning it into an XR2 lookielikie is calling it close to this!. The keyhole problem I have came across many times and can be solved in two ways, first one is to reform the hole by using a bodywork hammer and filler, go to the scrappie and get yourself another lock, option two and the one I prefer is to delock the door, this is an option only for passenger doors unless you want to wire in a remote central locking system, but to delock the door, just simply remove the interior door card to get access to the other side of the door and put some filler mesh over the hole secured by some filler, let it go off and then just fill the hole, sand and shape it till its invisible then paint it, you should be able to get your colour from Halfords, or if you are an able welder, make a circle of metal the size of the hole and weld it in, fill it and paint it. Most modern cars only have one lock on them so this wont look odd. As I say you could delock the lot if you install a remote central locking system, never done this personally but I wouldn't imagine it to be that difficult!
