Retired today on Voluntary Early Departure scheme - just a posh name for redundancy. Loved my job and the people I worked with and will really miss it and them. Got to find something to do with myself now. Have looked after father-in-law for many years but he died in December so it will be strange being on my own at home. Mr BD retires in May and we have some decorating to do and then the world is our lobster - as Hilda Ogden would say! Am so used to getting up at 5am it will be strange to have a lie-in tomorrow but I'll try.
Congrats BD, My wife and I retired just on three years ago and we have found loads of things to do. If you find time on your hands you can always try joining U3A (University of the third age). Loads of clubs, outings, interests and not very expensive. You can belong to as many or as few as you like.
Echo Parkdales post, when we retired we joined the U3A. Best decision we ever made. Lots to do and made many friends. Can't imagine how we found the time to work now.
