I noticed in my local tesco last night, that the cigarette kiosk now has their cigarettes hidden behind doors. My local corner shop still has theirs on display. I had heard that there was new legislation coming in about cigarettes been on open display but has it already started or are tesco starting early?

If Every smoker in this country stopped, how much would the chancellor lose? I would bet it would cost more than is given to the health service every year.
I realised long ago that current smokers are a lost cause , the way foward is to stop kids starting in the first place , the plain packs may help. Another idea is to sell cigs only in packs of 200 so that kids can't afford them , how does that grab you ?
Don't be naive Eddie, the kids would club together to buy them.
Buy 200 at a time Eddie so it would not affect me. I do see your point though. Probably a good idea.
Have the people who come up with these laws ever met children? The more secret something is, the more enticing. Either ban it or leave it be - don't rake in billions in revenue on a product and then make it illegal and shameful to use it. Eddie - the reason so many people now smoke in their own homes is because it's the only ruddy place they can!!!! And cars are far from clean http://www.environmen...nsport/car-pollution/
I have noticed the people across the road who have children always come outside, by the front door when they want to smoke, which I consider very good. At least they are making sure their children do not become passive smokers.
I live in a cul-de-sac and watch the kids at the top of the road going to school. Most of them are smoking. Where do they get the money, At £6+ a go it aint cheap?
Take a lot more organising to 'club together' and raise £60 to £70 for 200 than it does to get £3.50 for 10 which is what happens at the moment.
They buy counterfeit ciggies for £3!
If that's what you think Eddie...............the best legislation to come in, in my opinion, is raising the age at which you can buy cigarettes to 18, this latest thing about not being on display is rubbish.
It is 18 craft. has been for over a year.
Since raising the age to 18 smoking rates of young people has dropped so some things work. The tobacco industry has to recruit 350 new smokers a day - because that's how many die!
"Er....anything for the weekend , sir?"
[Whispers] "Yes, I'll have a packet of ten "

Yes, all very stupid. People start to smoke because they want to, not because they can see the cigarettes behind the counter. And they stop because they want to, not because the cigarettes , which they would have bought , are now hidden from view.
Asda where I live have already covered their cigarettes, about a week or so ago.Yet the local shops have not.
Eddie. You sound very holier than thou. I wonder, What are your vices?
Fredkins Large supermarkets April this year. Local shops, not until 2015.
Oh, Ok did not know that.Do not watch the news that often micmak.
Real ale Mickmac I love the stuff !
I want to smoke, because the "smoking ban" has made it trendy and edgy.

But I can't do it.

I can't do that inhaling the smoke thing.

Do the NHS do a "start smoking" helpline, I wonder?
