Thinking of outing my Sky box - including broadband and phone. Not had any problems with Sky as regards service etc but the £50 a month is a bit steep so going for a freesat Humax recorder and looking to change phone and ISP too.

Any comments good or bad welcomed.

Thanks

Plusnet were OK when I was with them - just need to check that they have their own LLU kit in your exchange rather than supplying the (more expensive and also crap) IPstream product using BT equipment.

I eventually moved to talktalk because they were the first/only LLU supplier in my exchange.
I'm with greenbee (John Lewis-owned) but the telecoms service is provided by Plusnet. No problems at all in two years.
Incidentally, Plusnet is one of the Recommended Suppliers of phone and broadband from Which?
....and Talktalk is a "no-no" .
Depends on your distance from exchange as to download/upload speeds, but can be slooooow, Plusnet for us is only @ 0.9Mb/s, BT currently running @18.9Mb/s.

But you'll have to check your individual IP for best results..

Try here (it's free!!)

I'm with them

I've had no faults with the service and when I've had to phone them to change the direct debit details it did make a nice change to be able to talk to someone who has the same first language as me (although Yorkshire is nearly as hard to understand at times :))

The only thing I will say is they do limit bandwidth to certain services at certain times of day, but most ISPs do this to some degree and plusnet are a lot more open about it than most others.

They also offer an upgrade for an extra £5 a month that gives you maximum available speed on all services at all times (which I do pay for as It's worth it to me)

All that said, you will always get people saying good and bad things about every ISP, they are all OK if everything works and they can all be a nightmare if things don't work, to a certain degree it's luck of the draw.
talktalk has many detractors - with good reason sometimes - but if you are reasonably technically competent it is a 'cheap as chips' option - just don't expect Rolls Royce service/support when you are paying Lada prices ...
Hi Nibble, hope you're well, BT at 6.3 for me, boxy knows location
Still laid for next few weeks yet, baldric, but boxy keeps me nearly sane. It's probably hard work for her though.. :-D
I've been with Plusnet for 3½ years, and would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

They have a good ticket system for dealing with faults, and a very helpful forum run by customers, with frequent contributions from the ISP techies and other staff.
See you on Langdon Cliffs when up to walking again.

Thanks all

Tried Nibbles link and it gave 4.5 to 16mB for all ISPs (except AOL) on one page then different figures - all less than four when I went to a different page.

Still not sure!!! Or convinced
BTW - did you know that Humax sell 'graded' boxes via their online shop

In theory they are 'refurbished' in fact the one I got was (very obviously) brand new - I suspect that it's a quiet way of testing how the products would sell if marketed at a lower price.

You don't have to ditch your SKY dish and box altogther ! If you cancel your monthly subscription, you will still receive the basic "freeview" channels, thru the box. That is, all the important ones and almost none of the crap channels. Try it
