Protection for Table

I have just bought a second-hand pine kitchen table which I am having sanded down and re-varnished.

I plan on buying one of these Heat Resistant Table Protectors to use under table cloth .
I also iron on my table..don`t like ironing boards..will the protector stop any dampness going through when I use steam??

Get an ironing board.
Even well-applied multiple coats of polyurethane varnish will develop crack and blister after repeated exposure to stem.
Treat yourself to a nice foldaway one from Argos - you've gone to the cost of having this table sanded and revarnished, no real point if your going to press a stem iron on it.

Those pads do get hot, though - it would be a shame to spoil the table. What's your objection to ironing bars, kloofnek? I bought a Bottleboard - it has a huge ironing surface. http://www.bottleboard.co.uk/index.php

Yes,will have to get an ironing board by looks of things.

Was hoping not to ...but you are right...shame to spoil the table now I am having it done up.
Only cost me £35 ..solid wood with lovely fancy chairs...proper farmhouse type from a charity shop,hust chanced on it.

Could have used it as it was but not keen on the colour,sort of orangy .

So having it done before I get rid of exisiting table which I have had 23 years...still ok but the ends which pull out are now a bit wonky...and it is not really big enough as it is .

I am very pleased with my purchase!!

Pine tables are supposed to be....pine tables.
As you have found sanding and treating is not difficult so use it and create a patina! As for ironing boards.....get one!

mjwman...have bought an ironing board...by patina,you mean a soft sheen finish ?
