I am due to have my gallbladder removed a week today. I had some blood tests done earlier this week and my GP rang me yesterday to say one had come back with a raised lymphocyte level my GP said could potentially be glandular fever.
She asked if I had a sore throat (nope). I've been really tired and not feeling very well at all though I put that down to the gallbladder stuff. I thought I'd be a lot more poleaxed if it was that though? Has anyone here had it?
I had some more bloods done today for glandular fever, general infection (IM or something?) and another blood count and awaiting results for folate and b12 back from the first lot done so will see what they say.
If it is an infection or virus, Glandular Fever or something like it, could it affect whether or not I can have the surgery? Seriously praying it won't affect anything, have waited long enough already.
Well when I had glandular fever when I was about 18 it was described as a kissing disease, so definitely something you catch off another person. Got very ill. Couldnt eat, and lost a lot of weight. Then I found I could eat oranges and slowly got better. Had a long time off work and also remember constant blood tests which was the only way they could see if it had gone.
I doubt very much that you have glandular fever and i doubt very much if your surgery will be delayed.
A raised lymphocyte level with an otherwise normal blood profile could well be a normal finding.
The answer would be......repeat the blood count.
Good luck Jenna1978, for the blood tests and, hopefully the operation. As you say, you have waited long enough and gallbladder problems are no fun at all.
Thanks Grasscarp. I feel rubbish but not nearly as poleaxed as I figure I'd be if I had it and have other reasons for feeling knackered etc... which are more likely like gallbladder/arthritis crap.
Thanks Sqad, very reassuring :) Was panicking a bit! Keeping everything crossed the retest and others will all come back clear Monday so I can relax a bit again.
Counting down the days now, had my errands trip cut short earlier after gallbladder went a bit mental in the local shopping centre and ended up hiding in the loos to get some codeine down to get back home...urgh, roll on Friday!
Thanks Beckersjay :) Nearly there now! I have to say I never realised how much they could hurt or cause problems, suffering big time with nerve pain round my shoulderblades and mid back and been so hard trying to get and stay comfortable, especially in work, as anything pressing on my back irritates it. Hoping that is history after Friday, will be gutted if it's the arthritis!
Woohoo! Bloods are back to normal :) GP seemed a bit perplexed, said she was pretty sure it'd come back with glandular fever and said they will keep an eye on things , but I'm good for Friday so I'm happy :D Think my body is just having a few loopy moments. Hopefully things will settle after the op and I can get more back to normal, can't wait!
