sitting in traffic this morning I was shocked at how many schoolgirls on their way to school had really short skirts on, not just one or two but all of the ones that passed me and that was quite a few, are they in competition with each other as to who can wear their skirt the shortest.
There is a huge amount of peer group pressure - girls who don't have skirts up to their bottoms will be on the receiving end of jibes and bullying. As others have noted, it's not too bad if leggings or opaque tights are worn underneath..... it's the pasty skin leading to possibly not fresh underclothes that makes me heave.....
One secondary school round here banned girls from wearing leggings under their short skirts. Work that one out, makes no sense to me.
Nope - wrong school - you must have had a double in Hertfordshire crafty ... actually from your description, thinking back, I think you had been cloned many times :)
I am 66 and can remember sneaking out of the house in a mini so Dad couldn't tell me to go and put a skirt on. Also remember turning my skirt band up on the way to school. Have to remind myself of this when I find myself criticising the young people of today for doing exactly same thing!
We wore gym frocks that had to be no more than an inch off the floor when kneeling. My friend and I would pull the dress up over the belt till the frock was noting more thanabum duster and go swanning off to the bus stop or into town which was forbidden. This was 1967or soi guess not much has changed
I used to make my own clothes and my dear dad made me a measuring stick to get the hem even. He would pin the hem with the skirt on me then I would go and turn the hem up about six inches and stich it. He would always look bemused and mutter that he didn't remember pinning it that short.
