My great nephew is 18 today and his mother, my niece, has posted the following - //Well today I seem to be the proud owner of an 18 year old.//

I never thought I OWNED any of my children, I hope I guided them and brought them up to be good and honest citizens.

Am I mistaken, or is the modern trend to OWN children like owning a dog?

I would personally have taken that as a joke- i don't think it's meant seriously for a minute, is it?
It's like one lady on here describes her boyfriend as the 'man hostage'- it's not serious just something jokey to say.

You know her better than I do Jd- but I really would assume it's a joke however many times it's repeated. People use language very casually sometimes, someone took exception to Sherrard once because she calls her kids ' thing one', 'thing two' etc, but it's just a joke.

...mm...I noticed you referred to them as "MY children" jd. Doesn't that imply ownership....the first-person, possessive adjective to describe something you own............?

We all do this it's just to differentiate between our kids and other peoples..;-)
