I am nearly 6 months pregnant-although I have child-with his birth my waters broke and the hospital said to go straight in.. I live about 30mins drive from the hospital and was looking for some guidence as to when you really do need to get moving to the hospital..ie do you go as soon as your waters brake..or wait for contractions-if so how often and long should they be until you go in?

my mum always phoned the hospital and told the midwife what was going on and they always advised her what to do, maybe that would be an idea for you

good luck xx

I did as boobesque's mom did. I phoned once my waters had broken and they advised me to go straight in. They like to get the baby delivered within 48 hours of your waters breaking as there is increased risk of infection to the baby once they have broken. If your contractions start before your waters break I would phone them as soon as you feel them and they will advise you. Hope this helps. Good Luck with the baby x

I had a baby just 8 weeks ago and my mum is a midwife and this really worried me too. I think that you go in when you are ready, you need to be heading to the hospital when you are having strong contractions about 5 mins apart of course if you arent coping phone the hospital and tell them(you should phine them and tell them its started and ask them for advice anyway). On average you progress at a cm per half hour so that should give you plenty of time esp with a first child, and quite frankly if you delivered a baby in that space of time its ready to come and everything is gonna be fine. If your waters break you must phone the labour ward straight away, and get your bag ready to go... Good luck.

Go in as soon as your waters break, the doctor broke mine but it was only four hours later my son was born, my friend had a quick labour too 1 1/2 hours.

congradulations!
