I have recently left employment to start a training course for another job. I have now been told that the new company who is running the course will not pay any "wages" whilst I am on the course . Now bearing in mind that I gave up a job to do this course and I have since found out that I cannot claim job seekers allowance ,because I am unavailable for work neither am i entitled even as a single parent for income support even though my daughter is in the final year at school.. I am claiming working tax but they adviced me to come off that whilst im on an unpaid course. any suggestions

Ouch!

How long's the course?!

Any chance of doing an evening/weekend job whilst you do the training? Just to make ends meet?

I'll check the legality of requiring you to do a course but refusing to pay you - but I suspect the answer is "tough". :-( They probably should have told you this first though! I'll see what I can find.

thanks bug !!!!!!

think there is a loophole here. its like as soon as you start work you have to come off income support ,even though you may not receive a penny in wages for up to 7 weeks. not much incentive eh
