When I dont wear varnish the undersides of my fingernails are a yellowy colour - can I make them nice and white without varnish/French manicure? And what causes this ? Age ??
could be a nail infection, age, smoking....alll sorts of things. make sure you are scrubbing them daily with a nail brush and soap and keeping them short makes them look whiter. hth x
I use a nail pencil sometimes, make sure they are nice and clean behind, damp the end of the pencil, put it generously on the back of the nail, do a clear varnish on the front of the nail, leave it a little then put my hands in cold water.
U can buy a thing in salon services (sallys) and its nail whitening- bubbles up in water and it really did clean them- i didnt expect it to! Its in a wee white packet.... Try the varnishes that brighten nails etc for a while xxxx
Superdrug do nail whitening tablets .Bit like a steradent tablet really .Just dissolve in some warm water and soak your nails in it .
If you always wear varnish this can cause the nails to yellow .
White pencil will make the tips look nice and white .
How do you know your Dad didn't have a fungal infection? Fungal nail infections are age related, they are very common in the elderly and often ignored. Next time you go into your pharmacist for some warpaint, get the pharmacists opinion, they do know about these things.
Yellow finger or toenails are usually caused by fungal infection. I know that you can get over-the-counter (OTC) medicines but the first action is to visit GP. He/she should take scrapings from your nails and send them for analysis, as you may need a prescription medicine. When you visit, ensure you have removed all nail varnish. If bare nails are flakey most definitely fungal. Any signs of late diabetes: itchy body skin; leg rash?
