Dabbled in wireless broadband house networking.
Windows 7.
Bought 2 7day 85MBPS plugs attached to a D-Link router and the other to a Linksys cisco router and plugged in.
Both plugs lit up Power and ethernet. but neither lit up Data.
Any ideas?

You have a, yet unknown type of, router downstairs. This has wireless and is where your internet connection comes into, but it's wireless range doesn't cover your villa..
To extend the range of the wireless you have 2 home plugs (This is a UK version.... http://images.eseller...alenet-pl-500av-2.jpg )....
You then want to plug the D-Link router into the upstairs home plug to extend your normal wireless range (presumably to watch porn in the bedroom wirelessly? :-P )
If this is the case...... it's possible, but not easy to explain!

But I would....
Fire up No.2 router(Dlink), plug into it and log onto the admin pages.
Set the SSID and security settings to be identical to the first router
Save settings
Turn off DHCP
Save Settings
Change IP address to one outside the subnet.
Save settings.
Then connect the Dlink to the home plug via a LAN port on the Dlink.... And it should work..
IF you say the make and model of the first router than WDS may be possible.... errrr, do the same thing in another way.

What sqad should actually have bought is one standard homeplug to connect to the downstairs router and one of these for upstairs ...

... a bit fiddly to install (but all documented on the web) and then works like a charm - I've stuck one in the outside toilet & now have wireless in the garden :=)

Have you ever returned from breakfast, opened up AB and knew, straightaway that it wasn't going to be your day? I have that feeling after seeing the recent answers to my problem.;-)
I would like to thank all the Tech team, especially my good friend chuckfikens, for all their efforts to solve the problem illustrated in my post, but I have decided to "throw in the towel" and Mrs Sqad will remain "attached" by cable to her lap top.

No need chuck....I starred in most of them...;-)
Finally chuck......before i leave the mysterious world of Technology....I must ask after the condition of your father.
