Has anyone done this before? I'm trying it out now and have washed it and will peel it after which should be easier. Any tips?

Old Geezer...I am worried about your cooker....or how big you think an inch is....that hot , and they should be lovely in 45 minutes for sure!
I have noted that O_G has said that the veggies were black after about 45mins. This suggests to me that his oven is overheating.

He could try cooking at a lower temp. and leave them to roast for an hour. I often cook roast pots for an hour or more at 190c., if I have meat in the oven such as chicken/turkey breasts, which do not require very high heat.

Ron.
With regard to onions, I put them whole in the microwave, takes no more than a minute or two. Yummy.
I suspect you read that I wished it were black in 45 mins Ron, referring to a previous post. The thing is that it is a combination (micro & normal) oven and I use the normal oven part on on a few occassions. Usually when I'm finishing off a baked potato that I've already made soft using the microwave. I'm beginning to have doubts about how hot it really gets then. (I know I should have bought and installed the full size one I want to get before now, but the wall still needs finishing and the hood installed etc..)

I'll have to go find a good oven thermometer to buy and use, but these days I find it difficult to make a decision on an item or the 'get up & go'to actually put an order in. (You'd never believe the number of web pages I keep open with stuff I think I want to buy but still not done so.)

So, Maude, how did the roast onion go ?
Sorry O_G....I wish I had noticed that you did say "I wish".

Combi's are very useful but one still really needs to have a 'normal' oven in the kitchen; and even they are often idiosyncratic. My cooker is, as are most nowadays, fan assisted so that an even temperature is kept throughout the whole of the oven....My turn to say "I wish" it were true because mine cooks on one side and means I have to swing things around when half cooked.

Ron.
