People always moaning my fathers estate should have gone to charity.

My father passed away last June after suffering with dementia for nearly 4 years. My mother passed away in 2004 and my wife passed away in 2006.
My younger sister passed away when she was 16.
I sold my house after my wife passed away and lived with my father as I inherited my mothers share of the house and cared for him until he had to go into a home for the last 9 months of his life with advanced dementia.
Fortunately I had early retirement.
I am just fed up of people saying time after time my parents house should have gone to charity. This is the house I am now living in.
I am just wandering if any of these people think if they would like to be in the position I am in.

I have thought overnight you said you worked in London and came back to your parents house when you retired and a lot of people moved into the road around that time.
These people are probably thinking you are one of these sons who just stayed at home and just lived on his parents income.
You worked in London and these people probably do not know this.
You have retired to the West Midlands for family reasons. Yes it is probably less common to come into that area to retire but I have done the same because of family connections.
There is nothing wrong with what you have done and you either want to enjoy the house for the rest of your life or sell it and get a nice bungalow somewhere.
Don't do anything in haste however which you may regret later just because of these people who seem to be making assumptions without having any of the facts.

Are you and Mrs O 2 of the people wanting Glen to give his house to charity.
On several occasions I have heard people say that it is wrong that one person is left so much in a will and even the wrong person. They just wish they have been left the money.
Glen has not broken the law and people should stop hassling him.
Yes it appears he is well off in money terms but it does not replace his wife, father and sister.

Hi petal54
I have heard so many stories where a house has been split into a tennants in common situation and the wife has passed away and her half has gone to the children.
Another lady has joined the husband on a frindship basis and later thinks the husband can get the half belonging to the children back.
When they realise this is not possible they are out the door very quick.
I think women are the worst in expecting this.
