how are you supposed to read conversations?

lokking at someones page is like listening to one side of a phone conversation... you just get one side ... how do you see who each response is directed at?

i assume the names with a # before them are who the reply is directed at, but do you have to click on every single one in order to to look at the full conversation....is there no way to see it on one page?

im confused
