I'd like that facility too
Normally have to call your service provider, such as BT and get them to set it up on your line. They will probably add a small charge to your bill.
Mine just came with the phone, didn't have to do anything special and don't pay any extra for it.
I'll look for my phone booklet - must admit I haven't much patience when it comes to RTFM :)
Just came with the phone? You surely had to ask your telecoms provider to enable it. There sometimes is monthly charge but it can be free.
Maybe we did ask for it - definately wouldn't have done if there was a charge for it (just assumed it came with my phone).
I have it. It's an extra service with BT. Works out at about £3 per month. Definitely worth it. Any unrecognised number doesn't get answered - the answerphone takes over. Saves all the junk calls.
The people who are saying 'it just came with my phone' may be talking about mobiles as opposed to landlines (as might the OP of course)
BT charge for caller ID but uf you sign up for telephone prefrance service (which is free) it comes with caller ID as an extra so you stop those annoying sales calls and also get your caller id as a bonus if you phone bt they will set this up but be sure to ask for telephone prefrance with caller id because if you just ask for caller id they will change you unfortunitly i dont know if this is the same for other providers you would have to phone and ask hope this helps
If with BT, ask for their (free) Privacy at Home package which includes caller ID.

I am talking about our landline which is with the Post Office.
ah - I'm with Virgin which is being supplied via a BT landline - I'll check all options - thanks
mike: as you can see (above) you don't need to pay for it!
to quote the above post i gave the service the wrong name is is rightly named as Privacy at Home in the above post but its what iwas talking about
With Talk Talk you get this service for free.

Martin
Yuk--hate the expression "for free".
Caller ID can be free with most telecoms providers.
