Anyone recommend a company for reasonably priced Contents Insurance?

We're living in a rented house and contents insurance is obviously necessary. I've used some of the comparison sites and frankly am tearing my hair out. My husband works at home on computer and several have no means of selecting self employed. Also many ask for specifics on types of locks, several even saying consult a locksmith for information on locks. It's crazyily complicated for a basic policy.

We have a faultless no claims record on insurance, we simply need basic cover for around £30,000 contents, that's it.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company that's easy to deal with. We have been insured with Saga but they hiked their renewal prices this year and when I phoned to chat about it, the 'yoof' at the other end seemed so disinterested in requoting I just cancelled the policy.

Are you renting from a Council? They can offer very good quotes on contents insurance.

I go with Rias, they have nice people in Ireland to talk to. We are over 60 and my contents for £50,000 is £75.

I would imagine you would be hard pressed to find a company that doesn`t ask you about your locks. That info is relative to the likelyhood of someone being able to get into your property.
I`ve just re-insured contents and buildings with the Post Office. They were nearly half of the price of More Than (my previous insurer). You can set them up by phone as well as internet.

My brother was with Saga too, and as you said the premium shot up.
He got a great deal from Age UK (Age Concern)
Pretty sure he said the premium was about half the price.

If you are "mature" then RIAS is a recommended insurer by Which? Very good to deal with, too.

...but you will have to answer "lock" questions. It's common practice to ask.

I have always bought from Age Uk in the past as the insurance is for my elderly father, however they hiked their price this year. I went for Aviva as they had 50% off online and the form was easy to fill in. They emailed a quote first, which I immediately accepted since it was so reasonable.
