I've just been quoted well over a thousand pounds by BT to connect a new land line to my home - it seems all the available lines from the pole are taken and major installation work is required to make more available. I'd be very grateful if any one would be kind enough to explain any options to me , in simple terms please as I'm not too bright re: technology The mobile phone signal is not brilliant in this area so I would really like a land line. Thank you

Is there a cable company with capacity in the local area ?

BT tends to take care of the local loop so most other "copper wire" phone companies would rely on BT anyway to connect to your residence.
