Possible mis sold payment protection insurance on mortgage
I think I may have been mis sold ppi on my mortgage after listening to some of the adverts on TV recently. What would be the best way for me to go about things?
I would like to get back as much of my money as possible including getting compensated for being a victim of wrong doing by the mortgage lender.
I rang one the numbers from the adverts on TV who told me I have a case and seemed eager to press ahead with things. I told him I wont do anything today as I'll be seeking more advice. He said if you deal with the lender directly you wont get as much money back or much if any compensation.
Would he be right about that? But dont these companys who help with ppi claims take a percentage?
What would be my best option? The mortgage started in mid 2004. The insurances are life, critical illness and buildings, which we were made to believe had to be taken.
Many thanks.

you can do it all yourself, by using letters available on moneyexpert. com and similarit!
BTW, usually to get a certain rate, mortgage companies and bank tie in additionalpr oducts, BUT that doesn't mean you were necessarily mis-sold!

Are you sure these are PPI policies? Certainly Buildings Insurance won't be covered by the PPI mis-selling process. Life policies were covered by Endowment Mis-selling.
I would do it myself. If you pay someone to do it they'll take a large chunk and you'll still have to have some input to provide info/paperwork

If you use a third partyu you will do the same amount of work as if you did it yourself They will just attach ther paperwork which will be a standard lett with your name dropped into the relevent places.
Factor30 is right the insurances have nothing at all to do with PPI/MPPi and if the 3rd party told you they did then they are wrong. Some not only take apercentage of any compensation but also charge an upront non-refundable fee.
You can request all your information held by the mortgage company - called a data subject access request (dsar) and look through the documentation your self this will cost you £10

do not go with anything you see on tv, or those who are about in shopping areas, malls, as they are rip off merchants. Good advice from cath, seek
about Martin Lewis website, moneyexpert, and you should be able to do it yourself, otherwise you will find that anything you do get back goes to the shysters. I telephone my bank some time ago and after a short time received a call and an apology for customer services and received
550 quid back which was good.
