rock ferry,birkenhead
We will be visiting Liverpool on Thurs/Fri - we have invited Mum and Sis along.
Mum was born in Rock Ferry, but evacuated during WW2,as a baby.We have a plan to take a tour of Anfield,Cavern Club, the Tate, and dinner at the Philharmonic.
This will be Mums first return to her birthplace, and none of us are familiar with the City.We would really like to visit Rock Ferry,by ferry,in the afternoon..and maybe find a characterful Pub,with lovely local folk.
Any suggestions are welcomed.Thanks,Zhu.

You can't actually go by ferry to Rock Ferry. You can go to Woodside (Birkenhead) and then get a merseyrail train to Rock Ferry station. It's a few years since I lived on the Wirral, so I can't recommend a pub there, but the last time I was there Rock Ferry was a little rough around the edges. Maybe after looking at Rock Ferry (which I'm sure has changed a little since...

For myself,I would like to find a friendly backstreet boozer,in Rock Ferry
must have good ale
could have,a good old juke box,or no music at all!
But more importantly,a knot of friendly locals,of my Mums generation!
Do you know of a Pub like this in Rock Ferry?
Definitely no W*th*rsp*ons,or similar nonsense "Pubs",thanks..

Not Rock Ferry, but as you are already visiting The Phil with its world famous urinals, the other notable city centre pub is The Vines in Lime St.
Incredible old decor ; check if the big back room is having any live music. Last time i was in the city there was a rockabilly band and a jiving audience - my cockney business partner said the set-up/atmosphere was like something for a movie.

Maybe after looking at Rock Ferry (which I'm sure has changed a little since your Mum was last there!) you could hop back on the train and go to Port Sunlight. This is a model village built for the workers of the Sunlight soap factory. It really is beautiful. There is also an art gallery and a pub (Bridge Inn). It really is worth a visit. If there is a specific street your Mum wants to visit in Rock Ferry then you could use google maps to locate it.
And have you booked your Anfield tour? I'm fairly certain that these have to be booked in advance.

despite its name, Rock Ferry isn't where the Mersey ferries from Liverpool land - this is either at Seacombe (Wallasey), or Woodside - although the ferries don't go to Woodside during commuter hours.
Woodside Pier is a short walk from BirkenheadHamilton Square station, from where Rock Ferry is reached by train (3rd stop toward Chester).
