How long do employers have to keep wage records for ?

Thank you, I am attempting to prove when I started paying into a pension scheme in 1998, whats the best way, any idea?
I work for a local authority and we have to keep everything for a minimum of 7 years. We have pension records going back 40 years and more.
Is the point at issue precisely when in 1998 you started paying or just when you started, the precise date being a secondary issue?

Do you have ANY records of your own that would make a start?

I need to know what month I started to pay into the pension scheme.
You are wise to keep most records for 6 years, if you are an employer you should keep your PAYE records for the current year and previous 3 years as albalass says.
i keep all my p60s (and payslips until i get the p60) and every pension letter, just for situations such as this.
