My mother-in-law's health is not very good and she wants to be able to shop on line when she can't get out so wants to buy a netbook. Can anyone who knows about these things let me know if this Acer for £199.99 would be ok as she doesn't have much to spend? She really does want to use it only for shopping although once she gets better at using it she may want to surf a bit more but don't think she'll be using it for music etc.

That bloody sticky "K" key. Obviously I meant a netbook.

LOL

It's a good netbook, if I was you I'd pop into somewhere like PCworld where you can try one out with her first though, it doesn't matter if it's the same one, just anyone with a 10inch screen just to check she can read the small screens OK.

Other than that, the acer ones are perfectly good netbooks and that's a pretty good price.

Thanks Chuck. Fortunately her eyesight is not one of the things that are failing.
i use my netbook for surfing the net and it's great, although the battery life is misleading! i get just over 2 hours on my dell one if i am connected to the net, when it's advertised at 6-10 hrs!
You can also increase the zoom level on the net so poor eyesight shouldnt be too much of a problem. I would definitely go to pc world and try them out beforehand. :)

Thanks cc. I did see the Acer tested on The Gadget Show this week and the battery time was just ver 5 hours so hopefully it should be ok.
My Asus eeePC netbook was advertised with an eight hour battery life, In normal use I get about 5-6 hours from it.

Though if it's being used at home just leave it connected to the power.
Below are the two options that I would like to suggest you:
Gateway - Netbook / Intel® Atom™ Processor / 10.1"" Display / 1GB Memory / 250GB Hard Drive - River Black - LT2802U

Toshiba - Mini Netbook / Intel® Atom™ Processor / 10.1"" Display / 1GB Memory / 250GB Hard Drive - Blue - NB505-N500BL
