If your child gets a statement of educational needs and it states that they have to go to a special school can they make you take your child out of their current school and move them to the special school? Thanks.
there may be more to it than a few speech problems, I think its good that at least whatever happenes your son will get a thorough assessment and hopefully some much needed help.
It's all very odd. Hopefully, if he gets seen by a paediatrician (aspart of the statementing process) they can rule out, or in, any further problems. The speech therapist spoke like it was was a done deal.
Quick follow up - now that I have calmed down I have found out quite a bit of info. To go to the speech and language centre my son would need banded funding at either level 3 or 4 OR a statement of special educational needs (so presumably, the speech therapist thinks he will get one of these). I do not have to send him to this centre and his needs can be met by a mainstream school of my choice. I have a meeting with the local primary school head on Friday to discuss all this and the boy's been referred to a paediatrician to investigate the statement route.
Sorry if I sounded completely unreasonable to anyone last night, but the thought of separating him from his twin and sticking him in a taxi at the age of four was all a bit much for me. x
Aww you weren't unreasonable, hope your meeting goes well on Fri. I think you are right too, there's every chance he will improve greatly in the near future with him being so young.
I know what you are saying sher, but until his needs have been thoroughly assessed it is not known what level of provision will be needed. I think its wrong for the speech therapist to make these sorts of hypothesis
Hi both, saw the Head and he was fully supportive of us. When places are confirmed he will get the Ed Psych to evaluate thing 2 and we will take it from there. We are also waiting to see a paediatrician with regards to a statement.
