What is it with the Olympics?

Every time I see Seb Coe, he talks about "a major cultural event taking place in this country in August". I always thought the Olympic Games was a sporting event where participants tried to win medals and set records. What the fk is cultural about it? And why has Stella McCartney turned our athletes into fashion models? Where is our national flag? Shouldn't our athletes be wearing it instead of giving loads of free publicity and custom to Stella McCartney?
