My Dear I Wanted to Tell You by Louisa Young. About two very different couples in WW1 and the tragedies that befall them - excellent imo.

"We Need to Talk about Kevin" is not an easy book to read but stick with it - it's a brilliant book but quite disturbing. One of the best ones our Book Club has read. The good thing about a book club is that it gets you reading things you might not normally have chosen

We need to talk about Kevin is one of my favourite books and I re-read it at least once a year, (and have gone through three copies by 'lending' it to other people). When I first read it though I wanted to hurl it across the room as the characters you're given to relate to are 'unsympathetic' to say the least... makes for a rough ride but I think worth it. Very well written book.

Our last choice was 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' - very sweet and a bit of a tear-jerker in places. For the next one, someone's chosen Edith Wharton's classic 'The Age of Innocence'. I didn't think I'd enjoy it, but it really stands the test of time.

Started reading it yesterday, to be honest I can't say I'm enjoying it but I can't seem to put it down. I'm a quarter of the way in which is good going for me in 24 hours. China you're bang on, that Eva is really unsympathetic. I'm hoping for a bit of a twist to keep me interested.

would like to know if anyone has any thoughts on "The tenderness of wolves" by steff penney. i enjoyed reading it.

It really is a good read and challenging because you just identify with the characters and there is no part of you that wants to. There's quite a few twists and turns and I promise you will be glad you read it but I'm not sure if 'enjoy' is a possibility on the first read (wasn't for me!) I enjoy reading it now because I think it's a clever adn well written book and an incredible story, but first time reading was not enjoyable... but 'challenging' is fun too. Let me know what you think when you're done! :c)

There was another book I wanted to recommend to you which I thought was called 'Monster' but after extensive searching it isn't! It is about a child who is killed by her parents and is told from the perspectives of neighbours, the parents etc... it's an interesting read and I bloody well wish I could remember it... unfortunately it's another book I 'lent' someone because it was so good :-/

I've just finished reading How Green Was My Valley yet again..............I seem to read this book about every 10 years and appreciate different things about it each time.

Thanks China, wrack your brains for the name of that book, it sounds good. My mm rang me earlier (she's in the book club too) and asked how I was getting on with Kevin, her words for it were verbal and diarrhoea, lol.

Mo Hayder has a new book out - Hanging Hill. Her books are quite disturbing, but an excellent read.
